Welcome to the challenge of learning new software. The ads say QuickBooks is as easy  to use as writing a check and making a deposit… which it can be. BUT…. All the other things you want QuickBooks to do for you can be a real challenge to learn to do properly especially if you are not trained in accounting and computer technology. In the long run for most of us, the more we work at it the more frustrated most of us get at it. Worse yet, lots of us get where we really are not sure if the information the program is giving us is accurate and telling us what we need to know.

Over the last 10 plus years, F Mac Bond has found that most clients who started QuickBooks on their own have muddled their way through the program and not utilized most of the areas that make QuickBooks a great accounting software program. When larger corporations implement new software, their budgets almost always include twice the cost of the software for training and maintenance. They would rather not spend the money but they know in the end the training and set up will save them money. We would much rather help our clients begin using QuickBooks correctly with a well- thought out chart of accounts and sets of lists than go in after the fact and fix all of the problems that have arisen. Many times our most cost effective recommendation is to start a new QuickBooks data file to clean up the problem areas.

The best way to get started correctly is to have a bit of one on one training and set up on the front end. This way you find out what YOU need to know to use QuickBooks for your company and not just some generic canned training program that shows you lots of things in a rush -- none of which you get good at. An hour of set up time and a couple of hours of one on one training gets most all small businesses off and running their accounting software the right way.
